My Background:

Name: Fiyinfoluwa Emanuella Banjo.
Date of Birth: 20 November, 2006.
Parents: MR. Abimbola Olufemi Banjo and MRS. Adegbemisola Adesimbo Banjo.

My name is Fiyinfoluwa Emanuella Banjo and I am seventeen-years-old.

I was born in Lagos, on the twentieth of November, 2006, as the firstborn in a family of four hailing from the Ijebu Ode local government in Ogun State.

At birth I was diagnosed with total blindness in both eyes, a condition which would forever alter the course of my life.

When I was six-years-old, I was enrolled at Smallville Montessori Primary school Omole Lagos, which I attended for five years.

In Primary four, at the age of eight, I began learning how to use a windows computer with blind accessible software, which opened me up to a whole new world of technological exploration and kindled my current interest in all things digital.

In 2017, I graduated primary school and was enrolled in Estaport secondary school, Gbagada Lagos, where I studied for three years from JSS1 to 3, as well as the first term of SS1.

In 2021, I enrolled in Queens College Yaba, where I concluded my SS1 year.
In September of that same year, I left Queens College and enrolled in Starfield College, Fagba Lagos, where I completed my secondary education.

In June 2023, I sat for my WAEC SSCE exams and graduated from Starfield College, attaining a 292 UTME score and a WASSCE score of A1 in English Language, Civic Education, Christian Religious Studies, Catering Craft Practice, a B2 in Economics and Literature-in-English, a B3 in General Mathematics and ICT, and a C4 in Government.

From a very young age, I mastered reading and writing in Braille, the writing system for the blind. Later, I learned how to manage and manipulate computer systems, despite my physical limitations. Currently, I am learning how to create computer software and have already mastered the finer points of Web Development, the fundamental principles of the Python and Java Script programming languages, as well as the basics of database management and Graphical user interface design.

Despite my disability, I have found ways to excel in whatever aspect of life I set my mind to, whether it be in a field of study, art project, musical presentation or simply learning to navigate my surroundings.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing fiction and nonfiction, listening or playing music, singing, watching true crime podcasts, creating jewelry with beads, or learning new skills. It is my greatest wish to one day become a software developer, and to this end, I have been exploring various scholarship opportunities to study abroad.

In conclusion, I am a blind student who has learned, through many trials, that perseverance, creativity, and hard work are the keys to a full and fulfilling life. I have never and will never allow my disability to hinder my success, and hope that in spite of it, I will be able to bring a positive change to the world around me.
